Senior Associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
Santiago is a senior associate in the International Arbitration Group of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in New York. Before joining Freshfields, he worked in leading firms in his home country Uruguay and in China. Santiago obtained his law degree from the University of Montevideo and his Master in Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard University. He is qualified to practice to law in Uruguay and the State of New York.
Santiago has extensive experience in commercial and investment arbitration proceedings under ICC, LCIA, CIETAC, ICSID, ICSID Additional Facility and UNCITRAL rules, mainly in the mining, infrastructure, pensions, telecommunications and agribusiness sectors. He is a professor of international arbitration in the graduate and postgraduate law degrees of the University of Montevideo, and executive coordinator of the Diploma on Arbitration of the same university. He is also regularly invited to speak as a guest lecturer or panelist at different universities and institutions across Latin America on topics of his specialty.
